Fractons are particles with restricted mobility. We give a symmetry-based derivation of effective field theories gapless phases fractonic topological defects, such as solids and supersolids, using coset construction. The resulting theory is identified the Cosserat elasticity theory, which reproduces conventional symmetric at low energies. construction can be viewed dynamical realization inverse Higgs mechanism. incorporate defects dislocations disclinations, nontrivially related by Bianchi identities defect gauge fields. origin nature in those systems traced back to semidirect product structure translational rotational groups. immediately extendable higher dimensions broken symmetries, solids, vortex crystals. identify Wess-Zumino terms induce quasiparticle scatterings on defects.
